Who is Rich ? What the Sāstrās say ?

 Who is a Rich man?

(From the pen of Srirāmapāda Bhāgavathar)

Not the one who owns 2-3 houses; not the one who has plenty of bank balance; not the one who owns a luxury car; not the one who is in power; not the one who has costly gadgets; not the one who has mass following; not the one who leads a luxury life on earth or sky; not the one with influence and coverage; not the one with costly accessories to the body; not the one with several credit or debit cards; not the one with bunch of property documents or land; not the one who raises buildings and structures in the name of the God by wrong means and for wrong means. Because all these things are not truth and as everyone is aware it will not come along with the soul as the body is burnt or buried here itself as it is dead at some point of time in life. The Soul is permanent and it takes a different form depending upon the Karma one does (good or bad), evidently we witness many such beings in front of our eyes every moment.

See, what our sacred Veda scriptures and Itihāsās established and reiterated,

विपदो नैव विपद: सम्पदो नैव सम्पद:

विपद: विस्मरणं विष्णो: सम्पन्नारायणस्मृति:

Vipado naiva vipadaha Sampado naiva sampadaha

Vipadah vismaranam Vishnoh Sampad Nārāyana smrutihi

Thus, rich are the one who

1) Speaks the truth, wishes and do good deeds not for self but to others;

2) Does not cause harm, hatred, trouble to others by mind, money, muscle, material, or actions;

3) Preserves the dharma culture and practices, protects the places of worship in its entirety where all our Saints, Sants, Maharshis, Divine Beings visited in praise of the God;

4) Offers support for abhisheka, alankāra, dhoopa, deepa, naivedya to the Deity or even cleaning the temple premises;

5) Chants the Bhagavan Nāma continuously because ‘He’ resides in such person's soul and that person evidently possess the richest possession one can ever possess and no one can ever take it away. Therefore, such human belongs to the Bhagavān as both live together happily;

6) Associates simply with the people of above ‘Character’ mentioned from 1 – 5;

Precisely “True Richness is when you are so expensive that no one can buy your ‘Character’ !”

Essentially and sadly, as long as the body exists, most of the humans do not realize the truth. Once the soul gets separated it is too late to realize and it has to undergo several punishments for all the accrued sins as none of the earthly status, wealth, influence, men and material will be of any help to manage and wriggle out there. So, Repentance is the fine quality not only in one’s own interest but also to his/her children’s future, in order to negate most of the sins committed.

So, for all intents and purposes, everyone should develop the humility and being benevolent to build their families, the society for peace and harmony, and to enjoy the same during our lifetime itself.
