Letter to the Hon'ble Prime Minister
Letter to the Hon'ble Prime Minister
(1) Oxygen – Talk of the Globe
Already, we have been facing acute water scarcity. This is the straight consequences of violently encroaching the nature, covering most of the canals, lakes, riverbeds to grant permissions for the so called infrastructure development. Once, the cities like Bengaluru and Chennai have about 600-750 water bodies / lakes each, now less than 30 perhaps. Rest of the land is dried up everywhere. Everyone is witnessing this tragedy with no helping hands and it will be a nightmare to imagine the days to come without the water.
Equally important to condemn, we are cruelly cutting the trees everywhere, aggressively going against the nature in the towns, near the riverbeds, forest areas and hill ranges. The recent direct repercussions of flash floods in the hilly regions, unnatural rains arising out of global warming created havoc in the cities like Chennai in December 2015 and some more as warned by the scientists are the realistic environmental challenges faced by us and what more in store, don’t know !
(2) “Preserve the Trees, Lakes, River and Hill beds & Develop
the Nature hereon”
When it is freely formed, given and available, we never valued and cared them. Do we require punishment and to learn it the hard way all the time? Some decades ago, the education was limited to sustain the livelihood. People and society were very happy and healthy. Whereas today’s education is well advanced, for what ? Just to have the supremacy holding a certificate? And use it for destructive purposes? How many scholars are truly using the knowledge for the welfare of the humankind is negligible at the global level.
(3) “Global warming – A serious threat”
(4) “Plantation and Preserving / Developing the Lakes is essential
now”
Since my childhood from 1980s, the world leaders in all their summits have been (only) talking about the Global Warming and its consequences, but yet none moved an inch forward in the last 40 years. Most of the Countries protect their greenery, mountain and forest ranges. But in our Country, unfortunately in the last 4 decades no control on the environmental violations. Himalayan Glaciers are melting, Rivers contaminated, forests are destroyed, riverbeds are stolen, manufacturing establishments are mushrooming every nook and corner, vehicular population posing threat to livelihood taking the air pollution to the worst ever possible levels etc. A report read yesterday indicated that the Corona virus was planned in 2015. Then please understand under what dangerous circumstances we are living in today. The virus now throws an open challenge to the Oxygen available not only in the human body but in the atmosphere itself. We are seeing 1000s are dying every day due to non availability of oxygen. It is painful to see when someone from international community looks devastatingly at our healthcare system despite the fact that our Doctors, Hospitals and Health staff relentlessly strive hard to service the public with the limited sources available.
(5) So, realize the extreme importance of the Trees and Lakes
(water) for our survival. I appeal all the State Governments and the Centre, to
seriously consider installing sea water desalination plants in a reasonable and
permissible manner to combat the drinking water scarcity for the people.
Everyone, in front of our homes, streets, nook and corner, need to plant trees and ensure their safe growth because they produce oxygen, clean the soil, control the pollution, slow down the storm water run-off, provide us shade, reduces the heat and make it pleasant, act as wind-breakers, fight with soil erosion, and protect the entire animal kingdom and birds. Trees are really the livestock of mankind and other living beings. They unconditionally provide us food, oxygen, shelter, medicines and many more.
With each passing day, the importance of planting trees and preserving the lakes have only increased. At least now, let us all realize and take an oath, form as a team or committee in every street, help plantation to save our ailing planet earth.
(6) The purpose of trees and lakes is enormous; and their existence is vital for our survival.
Finally yet importantly, Matured leaders will not like the blame game, they only want action plan. Fortunately, this is what precisely we can observe in our current leadership at the Centre. I have submitted an appeal to the Hon’ble PM and Home Minister. Hope things will take proper shape soon to revive and rejuvenate our great Nation “Bharata Desam”.
Lastly, am glad that the weekend lockdowns though late were imposed in response to my letters to the Governments in April 2020.
